Plants

HARAKEKE
I call this humble plant the rangatira [chief] of all the resources that we use because not only do we use it for rope making but also for net making, the manufacture of all our clothing and most of all it contains marvellous medicinal properties which our old people used to cure certain afflictions in earlier times. All of our medicinal plants are currently the subject of a intellectual property rights claim with our government which limits the amount of information that we can disclose.

KIEKIE
An aerial vine which when harvested and dried, turns white and is used in the weaving of tukutuku panels.

PINGAO
This sand tussock is yellowy in colour and is said to be the eyebrows of TaneMahuta. This is also used in the weaving of tukutuku panels.
